How to Spot an Accredited Online Educational Facility

July 22, 2008 by Brian Rubin

There are many, many so-called online educational facilities that promise you accredited, legal and legitimate degrees at the lowest prices. Some of these even offer you the degree up front for a lump sum. While places like this might seem appealing to you if you wish to save time and money, most of the time facilities like this are a scam, and the college degree they sell you are barely worth more than the paper they're printed on.

So how do you spot an accredited, legal and legitimate online university, such as University of Phoenix? There are several factors to look at, the first being promises and expectations. A legitimate online degree program will take several months to complete, up to a year or more, depending on the type of degree as well as the level (i.e. Associate's, Bachelor's, etc…). This means that places offering degrees within ninety days or just a few months most likely aren't the real deal.

Another factor to look at is history. Legitimate and legal online colleges, such as Axia College, have a long history of successfully training students in many career fields even well before the popularization of the World Wide Web and the Internet. Axia College, for example, began life as part of another school in the late 1970's and has been successfully giving online degrees to thousands of students who enroll in their programs. If an online school was just started in the last year or so, however, I would question their credibility.

One more factor is the experience of the instructors. If the online university uses experienced instructors -- an example of which being Kaplan University, which uses the same instructors at its online and on-campus facilities -- to teach the courses you will be taking for your degree. If the educators are themselves experienced professionals in the fields they are teaching, you can feel more secure in your online education.

These are just some of the things to look for when searching for a facility to get your online education. If you take factors such as these into account when searching for an online educational facility to enroll in, you can feel more secure that your money and time will be well spent.
